I just realized I never take photos of myself in my suit jackets anymore. Rest assured, I never go into court without a matching blazer + pant/skirt, if anyone from management is reading!

I actually ended up gifting these shoes to one of my friends this afternoon. They’re a half size too big, and I stupidly thought I could make them work. I love rehoming things!

I’m an avid “What not to Wear” watcher, despite my mild annoyance with the gimmicky “ambushes” on the seemingly unsuspecting candidates, and when I get dressed in the mornings, I definitely hear Stacy’s voice going “color, texture, pattern, shine’” when I think about how to add interest to my work clothes. Disclaimer: this is NOT a court-appropriate outfit. I would never wear a lace skirt to court, and you shouldn’t either. However, this was totally fun for the office!

A friend pointed out that my cats are constantly photobombing my pictures. She’s not wrong. Here’s an outtake:

I love this scene from Portlandia, and that is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I got dressed this morning.

Please note my cat, Fatman, in the left periphery. Who knows what he sees on my floor?

Another day, another bright outfit. It’s been overcast and cool (upper 60s) the past week, with the sun making an appearance around 3:00 in the afternoon, so I’ve been trying to cheer myself up through clothing! Not shopping all month is not making it easy, either! Pro tip: if you buy the initial ring from Urban Outfitters, paint over it with a coat of clear polish before you wear it – there’s a reason why it’s only $8!

This photo cracked me up, from my weird expression to Violet’s energetic commitment to photobombing me. Guess she got jealous that Fatman was featured yesterday.

Until tomorrow,

After the rainiest weekend EVER (no joke, it actually hailed on me as I walked ran into church on Sunday morning) I am more than happy to see the sun, and when I found this super-cute skirt at Ann Taylor, I couldn’t resist picking it up, even though I’m trying (and failing miserably) to shop less.

Blouse – Everly at Mimi & Red; Skirt – Ann Taylor; Wedges – J.Crew (on sale!); Mustache Ring – Mimi & Red; Ribbon Studs – BaubleBar

So I know in a previous post I declared a moratorium on the iPhone photography, but I was running low on time and didn’t want to set up my tripod. I promise someday I’ll take some legit photos! Anyway, my favorite part of this skirt is the zipper detail that runs all down the side:

This whole outfit just put me in a good mood this afternoon. I obviously can’t wear this to court, but I think it’s perfect for a warm casual Friday!

Here’s a photo from earlier this weekend, which pretty much summarizes what I did all day Sunday:

I jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon a few weeks ago, and the sock bun turns up in my feed at least once a day. I’ve shied away from buns ever since my dance team days – too many painful memories of my mom pulling my hair super-tight, cramming hair pins into the bun, wrapping it in a black nylon (ancient Chinese secret?) and hairspraying the living daylights out of it. But then I saw this post by the lovely Bees and Bows and got brave.

headband – H&M

I also spent some time last weekend with one of my best friends in the whole wide world and my doggy nephews! Here are some Instagram shots from the weekend.

Peace, love, and sock buns!

Lately I have…

1) Been really bad at blogging. Blame it on a busy work schedule, a sneak-attack sore throat that lasted almost an entire week, and general laziness. Sorry! I’m trying to do exactly what this little print says:

[my mantra, lately]

2) (re)Taken up ballet/modern dance! I haven’t taken a legit dance class since law school, and even then, we only made it halfway through Jazz Dance at community college due to other commitments (i.e., finals). I’ve also never really taken ballet. I obviously know the foot positions, how to port de bras, and some really really basic terms, but this class is teaching me tons of new vocabulary, and it’s totally fun!

[ballet slippers, floor]

3) Lost the fight to stop Fatman from sleeping in my dresser drawers. It’s so frustrating to see all of my clothing covered in cat hair, but he looks so happy sleeping that I can’t bring myself to lift him out of the drawers. He’s also packed in there quite tightly, so I literally cannot lift him out of the drawers!

[naptime]

4) Welcomed some new friends to my arm party! I think I need Bangles Anonymous.

[from left: Renegade Cluster Bracelet, Serpent Bangle - Stella & Dot; Thin Gold Bracelets - Gifts from Grandma; Gold Link Bracelet, Small Gold Bangle With Etchings - T+J Designs]

5) Started rotating flats into my shoe wardrobe. Don’t get me wrong, I love my super-high heels, but I’ve recently found some amazing flat shoes (like the over-the-knee boots here) that are slowly making me see the light.

[flats - Halogen]

Here they are in action with a cozy weekend outfit.

Here’s to getting back to blogging!

Happy Lunar New Year! 2012 is the year of the dragon, and apparently babies born this year are extra-lucky! Among my favorite traditions for this day are: the little red envelopes filled with money, eating long soup noodles for prosperity, and wearing red to ward off evil spirits. I also realized I don’t have a lot of red clothing:

Top – Anthropologie (last seen here)

Jeans – Paige

Boots – Via Spiga

Looking at this photo made me realize just how strange this shirt looks from the side! It’s much cuter from the front, as you can see from my previous post. I also can’t say enough about how much I like these boots – I got them on mega-sale at Nordstrom Rack yesterday, and I’d been dying for a pair of over-the-knee boots for as long as I could remember! Most boots are too bunchy in the ankle, but these surprisingly aren’t. Gotta love good shopping karma!

Here’s a snapshot of this week’s manicure. As you can see, I’m still obsessed with the accent nail.

Nails – Essie “Turning Heads Red” and Zoya “Jancyn”

Lastly, here’s another look at my cats. Please note that Violet (the calico) is sitting on top of the medicine cabinet. Nothing in my house is sacred anymore.

Gung hay fat choy!
