It’s a chilly/windy morning in San Diego! This is what I wore to brunch/gossip time with the always fabulous Blondie, Esq., who seems to have brought the San Francisco weather back with her!

I’m still working on finding a good time of day to shoot my outfits so I don’t have to rely on my halogen lighting, which seems to turn everything a weird yellow shade. The overcast weather didn’t help at all, though! I also am trying (and failing miserably) to curb my shopping, as I just realized two things: 1) I’m closer to 30 than 25 (!!) and 2) I don’t want to rent forever, so I’d better come up with a down payment somehow.

After the rainiest weekend EVER (no joke, it actually hailed on me as I walked ran into church on Sunday morning) I am more than happy to see the sun, and when I found this super-cute skirt at Ann Taylor, I couldn’t resist picking it up, even though I’m trying (and failing miserably) to shop less.

So I know in a previous post I declared a moratorium on the iPhone photography, but I was running low on time and didn’t want to set up my tripod. I promise someday I’ll take some legit photos! Anyway, my favorite part of this skirt is the zipper detail that runs all down the side:

This whole outfit just put me in a good mood this afternoon. I obviously can’t wear this to court, but I think it’s perfect for a warm casual Friday!

lashes

I’ve always had really short, sparse eyelashes that seem to grow downward, and no mascara has ever been able to make anything of them, so when I saw this deal for $50 for $100 worth of eyelash extensions at Wink Eyelashes, I figured I should seize the day, and I’m glad I did! After two hours of lying completely still with my eyes closed (i.e., intermittently falling asleep to a rare rainy afternoon in San Diego) here’s what they looked like!

Longer, thicker, and perfectly curled! According to my technician, a full set lasts 2-4 weeks before you need a fill (which thankfully only takes half the time and costs about a quarter of the price) and I’m not supposed to wear mascara (not that I would use it if I’m going to wake up with eyelashes like this!) The only makeup I have on in this photo is eyebrow powder. Yay, low-maintenance!

I’ll keep you updated about the staying power of these, but for today, I’m a convert!

tripod

This outfit isn’t too exciting, but what *is* exciting is my new tripod! Goodbye awkward iPhone photography, hellooo awkward self-timer photography!

I guess I need to figure out when the light’s good by this wall…or maybe I need a less-crappy camera. The one I’m using right now is a cheapo Nikon Coolpix S220, which I’ve had since college!

Yeah this orangey tinted light really isn’t working for me…guess I’ll keep trying!

sock buns and puppies

I jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon a few weeks ago, and the sock bun turns up in my feed at least once a day. I’ve shied away from buns ever since my dance team days – too many painful memories of my mom pulling my hair super-tight, cramming hair pins into the bun, wrapping it in a black nylon (ancient Chinese secret?) and hairspraying the living daylights out of it. But then I saw this post by the lovely Bees and Bows and got brave.
